Q: What basic lighting system do you recommend i get for my newly planted tank?

A: Well, great question! If you are on a low budget you can't go pass Hagen's Life-glo 2 bulb with a spectrum close to that of sunlight closer to the reds and yellow ideal for plant growth. If you have a larger budget the T5 High Output lighting systems are great and efficient incredibly bright penetrating through the wate for your plants benefit. Now if money ain't an issue - you can't look pass Meta Halide lighting. Incredibly powerful and costly the MH lights is unbeatable. Be cautious as the high out put will heat your water up so discuss with your store the best way to mount it. You can hang it from your roof or use a specially design hood top.
